Member representing Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, has facilitated the approval of a N90 billion project for the construction 30 meter dual spern bridge at Tiga in Kano South, alongside the development of new irrigable lands covering about 2,500 hectares.
The Managing Director of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, disclosed that the project will be executed in line with approved engineering standards to ensure durability and long-term impact.
Bichi explained that the initiative is aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and improving water management across the Kano South axis.
He noted that the dam component of the project is expected to supply approximately two billion cubic metres of water to support irrigation activities in the newly developed farmlands.
According to him, the project will significantly enhance farming activities, ensure all-year-round cultivation, and contribute to food security and economic development in the region.
He said his visit to the project site marked the commencement of the project, confirming that contractors have already been mobilized to site.
Bichi added that the project includes the construction of a permanent bridge and associated infrastructure, noting that work will commence immediately with preliminary structural activities and land filling before the onset of the rainy season.
He assured that the authority would maintain strict supervision and continuous monitoring of the project to ensure adherence to quality standards and timely delivery.
The Managing Director commended the Federal Government for providing the necessary funding, describing the intervention as a critical step toward addressing infrastructural gaps and strengthening agricultural capacity in the state.
The project is expected to open up vast agricultural opportunities for farmers in Kano South, while also improving transportation and connectivity within the benefiting communities.
