The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it generated N63.08 billion in revenue between January and June 2026, representing a 7.4 per cent increase over the N58.39 billion realised during the corresponding period in 2025.
The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller of Customs UU Adamu, disclosed this on Tuesday during a media briefing at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, where he presented the Command’s half-year performance report.
Adamu attributed the improved performance to a comprehensive review of the Command’s administrative and operational processes, intelligence-led initiatives and enhanced compliance measures.
He said the Kano Free Trade Zone generated more than N26 billion during the first half of 2026, exceeding its total revenue for the whole of 2025 by about N4 billion, while the Command also recovered about N3 billion from the abuse of transit procedures.
The acting controller said the Command intensified enforcement operations through intelligence-driven surveillance and inter-agency collaboration, leading to the detention and seizure of prohibited and restricted items with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N1.71 billion.
He listed the items to include unregistered pharmaceuticals, four air pistols, elephant tusks, over 2,000 kegs of foreign vegetable oil, military gear, smuggled vehicles, foreign rice, spaghetti and macaroni, counterfeit agrochemical packaging materials, among others.
He added that 22 suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures, with some handed over to relevant agencies for further investigation.
