Kano Govt Targets End to Water Shortage by December — Commissioner

The Kano State Government says it is working to end the persistent shortage of potable water in the state by December 2026.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Dr Dahiru Hashim, disclosed this during an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation of the Challawa and Gwauron Dutse water treatment plants.

Hashim said the state government was committed to ensuring adequate and sustainable water supply across the state, adding that rehabilitation work was currently ongoing at the Challawa and Tamburawa water treatment plants.

He said that in the coming months, the government would conduct test runs aimed at restoring adequate water supply to communities within the Kano metropolis for the benefit of residents.

The commissioner further said the government would rehabilitate and repair all relevant equipment and facilities used in water production and distribution to ensure that residents across the state benefited from improved access to potable water.
