Kano Police Launch Statewide Traffic Law Enforcement Campaign

The Kano State Police Command has commenced a statewide sensitisation campaign on traffic regulations, warning that strict enforcement will follow to curb traffic violations, reduce road crashes and ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.

The command, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said motorists and other road users were expected to comply with traffic laws during the sensitisation period, adding that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with extant laws once enforcement begins.

According to the statement, the exercise will focus on offences such as driving without or with covered number plates, driving against traffic, disobeying traffic lights and road signs, speeding, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, use of mobile phones while driving, overloading, illegal parking and obstruction of traffic flow.

The command commended the Kano State Government for its continued investment in road construction and rehabilitation, urging residents to reciprocate the gesture by using the roads responsibly and adhering to traffic regulations to promote safety and orderliness.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and called on transport unions, traditional and religious leaders, the media, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to support the campaign, stressing that road safety is a collective responsibility.
