An All Progressives Congress (APC) group has condemned the demolition of a building worth billions of naira belonging to Honourable Mahmoud Sani Sha’aban Dan Buram Zazzau, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Sabon Gari Federal Constituency, Zaria, Kaduna State, from 2003 to 2007.
The demolition, which reportedly took place over the weekend despite a court order, has sparked public concern, with various groups and individuals calling for justice and intervention by the relevant authorities.
The property, located at Plot No. 3, Churchill Road, Government Reserved Area (GRA), Zaria, was demolished amid an ongoing legal dispute between Honourable Sha’aban and Alhaji Abubakar over an alleged debt.
Following the incident, residents and supporters organised a peaceful protest to express their sympathy with the former lawmaker and demand justice over the demolition.
Similarly, groups, individuals and associations from within and outside the country have continued to visit his residence to express their concern and solidarity with him over the incident.
Honourable Ahmad Dan Premier, Coordinator of Bala Ahmad Tinubu for President Ambassadors, expressed sadness over the development and called on the Kaduna State Government and APC stakeholders to urgently intervene in the matter.
He made the call when he led members of his group on a solidarity visit to Honourable Sha’aban at his residence in GRA, Zaria.
According to him, “Considering Sani Sha’aban’s contributions to the growth and progress of our party in the state, we believe it is necessary for APC members, not only in Kaduna State but across Nigeria, to sympathise with him over this unfortunate incident.
“This is one of the most serious and tragic incidents I have witnessed in my lifetime.”
In their separate remarks, representatives of various associations, including hunters, mechanics and traders, as well as Christian and Muslim groups, expressed sadness over the demolition and called for justice.
They also urged the relevant authorities to intervene and ensure that the matter was addressed in accordance with the law.
In his response, Honourable Mahmoud Sani Sha’aban thanked everyone who had shown concern and sympathised with him over the incident.
He said the matter was already before the court and expressed disappointment that the demolition had taken place while the legal dispute was ongoing.
“This matter is before the court, yet they took the law into their own hands. At this point, I have nothing to say other than to continue praying to Almighty God for His intervention,” he said.
“As human beings, we must be ready to accept whatever Almighty God has destined for us. I am waiting for the outcome of the court proceedings, and I have nothing more to say other than to await the court’s next judgment on the matter,” he added.
The incident has continued to attract reactions from supporters, associations and concerned individuals, who are calling for justice and urging the Kaduna State Government and relevant APC stakeholders to intervene.
It will be recalled that a legal dispute concerning an alleged debt between Alhaji Abubakar and Honourable Sani Sha’aban was ongoing at the time of the demolition.
