A five-month pregnant woman has pleaded with a Sharia Court in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State to temper justice with mercy on her husband, Ladanai Salisu, after he admitted beating her.
The woman, who has three children with the defendant, appealed for leniency after Salisu pleaded guilty to the charge of assault before the court.
The case was heard by Malam Mubashshir Abdulsalam, while the prosecuting police officer, Corporal Saifullahi Nasidi, presented the case against the defendant.
After the defendant admitted the offence, his wife confirmed the incident but urged the court to forgive him, saying she still had sympathy for him despite the assault.
“I still have sympathy for my husband, and we have three children together,” she told the court.
In its ruling, the court ordered Salisu to purchase medication for his wife and sentenced him to one month’s imprisonment or a fine of N10,000.
The court also warned the defendant against repeating the offence.
