President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has blamed opposition politicians and previous administrations for the hunger and poverty in the country, saying his government is working to address the challenges.

Tinubu stated this on Saturday at the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign in Kaduna ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. But who created these problems? They created them, and we are working to eradicate them,” he said.

The president urged Nigerians to renew his mandate in the forthcoming presidential election, saying his administration had laid the foundation for economic recovery, prosperity and increased opportunities for citizens, particularly youths.

According to him, his government is pursuing policies aimed at improving economic growth, tackling corruption and addressing practices that undermine the nation’s economy.

“We have prosperity, consistency, growth, recovery and opportunities for our people,” Tinubu said.

He defended the removal of fuel subsidy, describing it as necessary to address corruption and economic leakages.

“What is past is past. Fuel subsidy is behind us. We are working towards ending corruption, falsification of invoices, dishonesty and the smuggling of goods,” he said.

Tinubu also commended APC governors for their contributions to development and payment of workers’ salaries, while urging Kaduna residents to support him and other party candidates in the 2027 elections.

Earlier, Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State called on residents to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, citing federal government interventions in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and security.

Sani said the Federal Government had released N178 billion for the rehabilitation of the 123-kilometre Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road, which he said had remained abandoned for more than four decades.

According to him, the improved security situation along the corridor has enabled travellers to move to Birnin Gwari without police escorts.

The governor also disclosed that more than 300 schools and over 150 primary healthcare centres previously shut down because of insecurity had resumed operations.

He further said approval had been secured for the proposed Kaduna metropolitan red-line rail project.

Sani added that the North-West region had received N84 billion through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), benefiting about 414,000 students.

He said the interventions demonstrated the importance of continuity in governance and urged residents to support Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
