The floodwaters have submerged residential quarters, offices, roads, and bridges, rendering many areas in the metropolis inaccessible.
Panicked residents were seen evacuating basic items to areas considered relatively safer, while some youths erected sandbags to prevent water from entering their houses.
The situation has left many without shelter, food, or access to basic necessities.

In a statement, Prof. Usman Tar, the Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, warned residents living along the river bank to take immediate action to protect themselves and their properties.
“Due to the unusual high volume of water this year, we urge all residents living along the river bank to take immediate action to protect themselves and their properties,” he said.
The Commissioner revealed that the Alau Dam water has broken down another channel, destroying farms and heading towards the river bank. He urged residents of affected areas to follow evacuation routes to ensure safe passage.
The Borno State Government has activated its emergency response mechanism to provide aid and support to affected residents.
Relief materials, including food, shelter, and medical supplies, are being distributed to those in need.
As the situation continues to unfold, residents are calling for long-term solutions to address the recurring issue of flooding in the area. “We need a permanent solution to this problem,” said one resident. “We can’t keep running away from our homes every year.”
An investigation into the cause of the dam’s breakdown has been launched, with officials promising to take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
The exact number of displaced persons is still unknown, but estimates suggest that thousands have been affected by the flood. The situation remains dire, with many residents struggling to come to terms with the loss of their homes and livelihoods.
The Borno State Government has pledged to support affected residents, promising to provide relief materials and assistance to those in need.
