More than 5,000 newly admitted students of the Federal University of Education, Zaria have been formally matriculated into various academic programmes, marking a major milestone in the institution’s history.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure, disclosed this during the maiden matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session. He described the occasion as historic, noting that it signifies the formal admission of the university’s first cohort of undergraduate students.

Professor Bunkure urged the students to uphold discipline, integrity, and academic excellence throughout their academic journey, emphasizing that admission into the university is a privilege that comes with significant responsibility.

He noted that the large number of admitted students reflects growing public confidence in the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor warned against acts of indiscipline, including examination malpractice, cultism, and drug abuse, stressing that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct. He advised the students to remain focused, committed to their studies, and compliant with institutional regulations.

Highlighting efforts to align with global best practices, Professor Bunkure revealed that the university has introduced modern learning systems such as digital learning platforms and computer-based testing.

He added that advanced security measures, including CCTV cameras and drone surveillance, have been deployed to ensure safety on campus.

He further pointed to ongoing infrastructural development and the introduction of a user-friendly university portal designed to enhance both academic and administrative efficiency. Students were also advised to maintain at least 75 percent lecture attendance and foster cordial relationships with members of the host community.

In his remarks, former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, urged the new students to steer clear of social vices such as cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, internet fraud, and violent behaviour.

Professor Abbas explained that matriculation represents a formal commitment by students to abide by the university’s rules, code of conduct, and academic guidelines.

He called on them to remain law-abiding and focused on achieving academic success.
The ceremony drew dignitaries, academic staff, and well-wishers, as the institution continues to position itself as a centre of excellence in teacher education and research in Nigeria.
