No fewer than 20 persons have been killed by bandits in a fresh attack on Dangulbi Community in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
An eyewitness and former councillor in the area, Alhaji Aliyu Dangulbi, said the attack occurred following a previous incursion by armed men during the Sallah celebration, which had earlier claimed 17 lives in the same general area.
He explained that the attackers invaded the village in large numbers on motorcycles, forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes in a desperate attempt to escape the assault.
According to him, the bandits spent several hours in the community, looting and destroying properties, while also preventing residents from carrying out burial rites for those killed in the attack.
He further disclosed that after leaving Dangulbi village, the armed men proceeded to neighbouring communities, where they reportedly kidnapped an unspecified number of persons.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the incident, noting that security operatives had commenced efforts to prevent further attacks in the affected areas.
He added that the police were working in collaboration with other security agencies to restore normalcy and strengthen security presence in the region.
