Gunmen Attack NIPSS Kuru, Kill Three Security Personnel

Admin 1 week ago

Suspected gunmen on Monday night attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos, killing two soldiers and a police officer before being repelled by security operatives.

Sources said the attackers struck at about 11 p.m. and attempted to gain access to the institute’s residential quarters where participants of ongoing courses were accommodated.

The assailants, however, met stiff resistance from security personnel stationed at the institute.

According to the sources, the slain police officer was attached as an orderly to a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, while the two soldiers lost their lives during the exchange of gunfire with the attackers.

No participant was abducted as security forces successfully prevented the gunmen from breaching the residential area.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the institute confirmed that a security incident occurred in the vicinity of the facility in the early hours of the day.

The Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Osime Samuel, said the situation was promptly brought under control through the swift intervention of security personnel and relevant agencies.

Samuel assured that there was no threat to the safety of participants, staff, residents or facilities of the institute, adding that normal activities were continuing as scheduled. He said investigations were ongoing and urged the public to rely only on official communications, while security agencies had reportedly intensified surveillance and launched a manhunt for the attackers.
