The Kano State Police Command has announced comprehensive security measures and election guidelines ahead of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency bye-election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said the measures were part of resolutions reached at the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) strategic meeting held on June 17, aimed at ensuring a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process.

Bakori said all security agencies under the ICCES framework had been directed to fully implement the agreed security architecture, with adequate deployment of personnel to polling units, collation centres, INEC offices and other critical infrastructure across Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas.

According to him, there will be a total restriction of vehicular and pedestrian movement within the two local government areas from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on election day. He explained that only essential service providers, INEC officials, accredited observers and duly identified media personnel would be exempted from the restriction.

The police commissioner urged voters to conduct themselves peacefully and abide by electoral regulations, noting that only eligible voters with valid identification would be allowed access to polling units. He warned that campaigning, canvassing and the display of political party materials within 300 metres of polling units remained prohibited under the law.

Bakori also reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on electoral offences, including vote buying and selling, ballot box snatching, voter intimidation, electoral violence and the spread of misinformation. He warned that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the Electoral Act 2022, while assuring residents of adequate and impartial security before, during and after the election.

He further encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities through designated police emergency lines and urged all stakeholders to maintain peace throughout the electoral process.
