Kano Govt Optimistic of Restoring Potable Water Supply Across State

The Kano State Government has expressed optimism that ongoing efforts to rehabilitate water infrastructure will address water supply challenges and restore potable water to communities across the state.

The Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru M. Hashim, stated this during an inspection visit to the Watari Water Treatment Plant alongside the Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, the Managing Director of the Kano State Water Board and other stakeholders.

Hashim said the visit was aimed at assessing ongoing rehabilitation works and resolving technical challenges affecting the restoration of water supply to Dawanau, Miltara, Bachirawa, Rijiyar Lemo and Kurna communities. He noted that key issues being addressed include inadequate power supply, rehabilitation of high-lift pumps and the elimination of illegal water connections that reduce water pressure.

The commissioner said the state’s water infrastructure rehabilitation programme was already yielding results, noting that the Joda and Guzu Guzu water treatment plants had resumed operations after remaining inactive for more than six years, while the Wudil Water Treatment Plant had significantly improved from operating at less than five per cent capacity.

He added that rehabilitation works were also ongoing at the Challawa and Tamburawa water treatment plants.
Hashim reaffirmed the commitment of the Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf administration to ending water scarcity in the state and appealed to residents to safeguard public water facilities and report illegal water connections.

He said public cooperation remained essential to ensuring reliable and sustainable potable water supply across Kano State.
