Kano Drug Abuse Task Force Seeks NSCDC Support to Combat Illicit Trafficking

The newly inaugurated Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has sought the support of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in tackling drug abuse, illicit trafficking and thuggery in the state.

The Chairman of the task force, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, made the call when he led members of the committee on a familiarisation visit to the NSCDC Kano State Command.

Rimin Gado said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with key security stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse and its associated social vices, particularly among youths.

He noted that many security challenges confronting society were directly or indirectly linked to drug abuse, stressing that addressing the menace required a collective and coordinated approach by relevant government and security agencies.

The chairman appreciated the NSCDC for its support and cooperation, while calling for sustained partnership to tackle drug abuse, illicit trafficking and thuggery in the state.

Responding, the NSCDC State Commandant, Commandant Mohammed Hassan Agalama, assured the task force of the Corps’ continued support and cooperation.

Agalama described the fight against drug abuse, thuggery and other forms of criminality as a collective responsibility requiring the commitment of government agencies, communities and other stakeholders.

He said the NSCDC Kano Command remained open to collaboration with the task force, adding that the command would explore ways of deploying additional personnel to support the committee’s activities as requested by its chairman.

The commandant commended the initiative, saying a united and coordinated approach among security and relevant government agencies would contribute significantly to addressing drug abuse and improving public safety in Kano.

He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to initiatives aimed at protecting lives and property, combating criminality and promoting peace and security across the state.
