CS-CRIN, NAPTIP, Media collaborate efforts to Fight Against Human Trafficking in Kano

Civi Society Organisation for Conflict Resolution in Nigeria (CS-CRIN) in collaboration with National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and media practitioners, has intensified efforts to combat human trafficking in Kano State.

The initiative is being implemented under a project titled,

*“Strengthening Community Resilience and Institutional Capacity to Address Human Trafficking in Kano State, Nigeria.”*

The project seeks to strengthen collaboration, partnership, public awareness, community-based prevention mechanisms and responsible reporting of human trafficking cases.

At a one-day media briefing in Kano, led by Barr. Adeniyi Aremu, the Executive Director of (CS-CRIN), participants discussed current trends, emerging patterns and key drivers of human trafficking in the state.

They also examined vulnerable groups and communities affected by trafficking and explored ways communities could contribute to preventing the crime.

The project highlighted the role of the media in combating human trafficking through investigative reporting, countering misinformation, raising public awareness and protecting the identities and rights of victims and survivors.

Participants also called for stronger collaboration among NAPTIP, CS-CRIN, the media, community structures and other stakeholders to improve referral pathways and support for victims.

The briefing further examined the roles of paralegals and Journalists Against Transnational Organised
Crime (JATOC) in strengthening the fight against human trafficking.

The formation of  JATOC is the immidiate outcome of the media briefing.

Participants identified areas for sustained media collaboration and joint advocacy to build stronger community and institutional responses to human trafficking in Kano.

The project is being funded and Supported by the Resilience Fund (supporting community responses to organized crime) through the Global Initiative against Transnational organized Crime.
