Kano Police Arrest 244 Suspects, Recover Guns, Drugs, 17 Vehicles

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 244 suspects for various major crimes across the state in August, including kidnapping, armed robbery, drug trafficking, thuggery and vehicle theft.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this yesterday at a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Kano,.

He attributed  the achievement to intelligence-led operations, 24-hour patrols, targeted raids and sustained engagement with communities and other security agencies.

Bakori said those arrested comprised eight suspected kidnappers, 28 armed robbers, seven motor vehicle thieves, 19 suspected drug dealers, 172 suspected thugs and 65 others linked to various offences. He added that 117 suspected thugs were arrested during coordinated operations across identified flashpoints in the metropolis.

According to him, the operations have contributed to relative peace in areas including Dala, Kofa Nasarawa, Sheka and Hotoro, while security operations are being intensified in Bacharawa, Gobirawa and Tudun Fulani to dismantle remaining thuggery networks.

The commissioner also disclosed that the command had intensified surveillance along Kano’s borders, leading to the arrest of suspected kidnappers, bandits and gunrunners and the recovery of prohibited firearms and ammunition.

Giving details of major cases, Bakori said operatives on August 13 intercepted a suspected member of a gunrunning syndicate at Rijiya Zaiki Motor Park following credible intelligence. A pistol loaded with 48 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered, while further investigation led to the recovery of two additional pistols.

He said other operations conducted during the month resulted in the recovery of additional firearms and ammunition, while six motor vehicles, four tricycles and seven motorcycles were recovered from suspected criminal syndicates.

On the 2027 general elections, Bakori said the command had begun engagements with political parties, candidates, INEC, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations and sister security agencies to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
