Hadejia-Jama’are Basin Authority Empowers 50,000 Farmers, Others in Kano

The Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA) has empowered about 50,000 people with agricultural equipment and other support items to boost farming and improve livelihoods in Kano, Jigawa and Bauchi states.

The Managing Director of the Authority, Engr. (Dr.) Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, presented the items on Monday at the Authority’s headquarters in Hotoro, Kano, during an empowerment programme attended by farmers, women, youths, elders and other stakeholders.

The items distributed included solar-powered water pumping machines fitted with three 300-watt solar panels, petrol-powered water pumps and harrowing machines, among other agricultural support materials.

The intervention was aimed at assisting farmers to improve irrigation activities, expand cultivation and enhance agricultural productivity.

Bichi said the programme was part of efforts to support various categories of people, particularly those engaged in agriculture, by providing them with the necessary tools to improve their economic activities.

He urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the items and ensure that the intervention translated into improved production and better livelihoods.

The event attracted prominent guests and representatives of different communities and groups from across the area.

The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as a significant boost to their agricultural activities and livelihood, while prayers were offered for the success of the programme and the safe return of participants to their respective communities.
