The Kano State Police Command has reiterated the enforcement of the state government’s ban on durbar and horse-riding activities in public places, warning that the directive remains in force.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, stated this while addressing journalists during a security briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters, Kano.
Bakori said the ban was introduced by the Kano State Government after consultations with relevant security stakeholders to preserve public peace and maintain law and order.
He expressed concern over reported violations of the security directives, stressing that the threats that informed the restriction remained a serious concern.
The police commissioner said security agencies could not afford to tolerate activities capable of undermining public safety and disrupting peace in the state.
He disclosed that a joint security meeting had resolved that any individual, institution or organisation intending to organise durbar or horse-riding activities in public places must submit a written request to the Kano State Police Command at least 72 hours before the event.
According to him, the notice would enable the police and other security agencies to conduct necessary security assessments and make adequate arrangements to ensure public safety.
Bakori urged residents, traditional institutions and event organisers to comply strictly with lawful security directives and cooperate with security agencies.
He assured the people of Kano State of the commitment of law enforcement agencies to maintaining unity, protecting lives and property, and ensuring peace and order across the state.
