The newly appointed Director of the APC Kano Professional Women Directorate, Dr Maryam Shettima Ibrahim, popularly known as Maryam Shetty, has announced plans to establish a digital platform to identify, connect and empower professional women across the state.

Shetty disclosed this in an interview with journalists after receiving her appointment letter at the Kano Government House, where she commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for recognising the contributions of women to governance, education, economic growth and social development.

She said the initiative would complement the state government’s efforts to improve women’s economic opportunities, citing the Kano State Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy for 2025–2029 and the monthly ₦50,000 grants to 5,800 women across the 44 local government areas.

The APC chieftain said that within her first 30 days in office, the Directorate would introduce a digital platform, www.apckanoprofessionalwomen.org, to enable professional women to register their qualifications, professions and locations.

According to her, the platform would help identify the distribution of professional skills across the state, assess areas where women require support and facilitate mentorship, professional development and access to opportunities.

She explained that the initiative would bring together teachers, engineers, medical doctors, pharmacists, pilots, policewomen and other professionals to contribute to public service, economic development and community advancement.

Shetty said the initiative was in line with Governor Yusuf’s development agenda and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope vision, particularly the national focus on social development and family welfare.

She added that the Directorate would extend its engagement to APC diaspora groups to communicate the policies and programmes of the two administrations to audiences beyond Kano and Nigeria.

The Director stressed that the Directorate’s activities would go beyond political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing commitment to building a sustainable structure that would continue to promote women’s advancement, strengthen families and support development beyond the elections.

She expressed optimism that collaboration among government, professional women and diaspora networks would help create lasting opportunities for women and contribute to Kano State’s development.
