Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano on Monday, 25th July, 2022 matriculated over 500 newly admitted students for the 2021/2022 academic session.
The admission statistics shows that MAAUN Kano is the only Private University out of the 111 existing private universities in Nigeria that started academic activities with about one thousand students at a go.
Speaking at the occasion, the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr said the event was important because it marks the official enrollment of the matriculating students into the university academic program and in line with the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“It is with great joy that I welcome all the students into the university. I trust that God will use this university to nurture your growth and development in all facets of life.
“I congratulate your parents for the central roles they have played in your lives. It is my prayer that their labour will not be in vain,” the MAAUN President said.
The President said Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria offers only courses that are of commercial value to students stressing that the teaching approach in the university is market-oriented and entrepreneurially based.
“Therefore, graduates of this university cannot join the army of job seekers in the country, they will be owners and pioneers of businesses in some years to come,” Prof. Isar said.
According to him, MAAUN Kano is a student-centred university as it is an avenue for grooming generational leaders.
“We take pride in training students in academic work. We are focused on the character development of our students based on the assumption that when they graduate, they would contribute meaningfully to the developmental discourses across the globe,” he said.
The President, who, congratulated the new students for being admitted after passing through rigorous screening and examination exercises, counselled them to follow the foodsteps of their lecturers by exhibiting high sense of discipline and responsibility.
He cautioned the matriculated students to strictly abide by the University’s rules and regulations and be of good character, as well as dress decently.
In her remarks, the Kano State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Mariya Bunkure advised the inducted students to concentrate on their studies in view of the huge amount of money their parents paid for them to study in the university.
Bunkure, who is also a governing board member, cautioned the students against acts capable of tarnishing the their image and that of the university.
She commended the Founder of the university, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo for establishing the university which is one of the best in the country.(End).
