The Management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, has charged the newly employed non academic staff of the university to be dedicated to their duties as anyone found wanting would be booted out.
The Acting Vice President, Academic and Quality Assurance, Dr Nura A. Yaro gave the charge while addressing the newly employed non academic staff during orientation exercise at the theatre Hall of the School of Arts and Management Science yesterday.
He said the orientation exercise was necessary so as to introduce the ethics and code of conduct which every staff member is expected to know and abide by.
He said there was need for the newly employed staff to count themselves lucky for being employed in the services of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria as it’s the fastest growing private university in the country.
“In the history of private universities in Nigeria there is no private university that started with a thousand population except MAAUN.
He disclosed that no fewer than 6,000 applicants applied for the non academic positions, out of which only 65 were successfully screened and employed.
He, therefore, urged them to discharge their duties in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations of the university as any act of misconduct such as laxity and indolence would not be condoned by the university.
Earlier in his remarks, the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr) Mohammad Israr congratulated the new staff for their appointment and urged them to exhibit high sense of responsibility in the discharge of their duties.
Also in his remarks, the Founder and Chairman, Governing Council of the MAAUN, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo called on the new employees to be dedicated and honest as the sky would be their limit in the university.
Prof. Abubakar Gwarzo, who spoke at length on the history of the university which was first established in Maradi, Niger Republic, also advised them to be innovative and develop themselves by going for further studies.
He said the university would support any staff member who wants to develop himself or herself provided they show commitment and resilience in the discharge of their responsibilities.
During the orientation session, the heads of the Security unit and Dr Umar Lawal who is in charge of the university clinic also gave a brief on the operations of their departmental responsibilities.
