The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN) has appointed Sheikh AbdurRashid Hadiyatullah as the new president of the CouncilSecretary-Generally General of the Council Malam Nafi’u Baba Ahmad disclosed briefing the briefing of journalists in kano.
He said the Council was overwhelmed by the loss of the late president of the C.ouncil Dr. Ibrahim Datti Ahmad.
Malam Nafiu B an Ahmad said according to the Constitution of the Council the vice president emerged president if the sitting president passed away while on leadership.
“The council is overwhelmed by the loss of one of its .icons, Dr. Ibrahim Datti Ahmad, who until his death was the president of the council”
“As we grieve over this great loss, in total submission to Allah and in line with the Constitution of the Council, Sheikh AbdurRashid Hadiyatullah, who was the Vice President of the council, is now the new President of Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria.”
He noted that the council pray to Allah to grant the new resident the wisdom and guidance to further the noble objectives of the Council, in particular, the unity and progress of the Ummah.
Radio Nigeria recalled. that Dr. Ahmad, a former presidential aspirant on the platform of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP), died last Thursday in Kano aged 83.
The elder statesman, who was a foremost medical doctor in Kano, reportedly died in the early hours of December 30 after a protracted illness.
