1.3 million girls enrolled in North West through (GEP3) supported by Foreign, Commonwealth, and (FCDO) – UBEC

The Enrolment rate of girls in primary schools nowadays in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states is on the increase, from figures released by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

The released Data from UBEC reveals that more girls between the ages of six and 11  have been enrolled in schools in the three mentioned northern states.

The Data was discussed during a media dialogue in Kano, which focused on girls’ education under GEP3 being implemented in Sokoto, Kano, Katsina, Zam,fara, Bauchi, and Niger by UNICEF.

About 1.3 million girls have been enrolled in the North West through the G Education Project (GEP3) supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom

The Data also revealed that Kano State has 1, 883, 105 girls enrolled in school, Katsina had 966, 859 and Jigawa (503, 968),.

Meanwhile, Kano state still has 240, 766 girls that are out -of school, Katsina has 267, 132 girls that are not in school and Jigawa 113, 310 girls who are not in school, According to the available statistics 

Speaking while presenting a paper during the dialogue an Education Specialist for the United Nations Children’s Fund, Field Office Kano, Muntaka Mukhtar, noted that many girls were dropping out of school because of cultural haves, which has affected their transition to secondary school.

He said The £79, projects1.85 project funded by FCDO started in 2012 and will end in September. 

In her remarks, The Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Field Office, Kano, Rahama Farah said a lot still needed to be done to ensure that every girl in Nigeria was enrolled, attended school, and completed h. education.

Records made available to the team of journalists who visited some of the primary schools that were supported under the Girls Education Project GEP in Nasarawa Local Government reveal that enrollment of the girl child was on the increase, due to the support which has increased the Quality of Education.
