It was a major victory for the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, led several party chieftains to Kano, where they received Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, the Senator representing Kano Central and former Kano State governor back to the PDP fold.
The theme of rescuing Nigeria and strengthening national unity resonated resoundingly as all the speakers at the occasion took turns to speak of the necessity of rescuing the nation from the brink of collapse. While extolling the virtues and sterling qualities of the Wazirin Adamawa as the one with the political will and capacity needed at this time to unify the nation, which has been compromised by the divisive policies of the APC.
Addressing the massive crowd of Kano people in Hausa language at the occasion, which included party faithful and defectors, the former Vice President acknowledged the huge sacrifice of Senator Ibrahim Shekarau by relinquishing his Senatorial candidacy in the NNPP to join the PDP, noting that it is imperative for all to be committed in the arduous task of rescuing and repositioning the country for the good of all.
Atiku use the occasion to announce the donation of N50 million Naira to the victims of the flood disaster in the famous Kano Kantin Kwari fabrics market.
The PDP chairman while welcoming Ibrahim Shekarau and his teeming followers into the party, expressed happiness at the event, while acknolwdeging the strategic importance of Kano in the politics of the nation. Shekarau on his part thanked the PDP leadership and the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, whom he described as a “revered leader” and pledged to mobilize his followers to work for the victory of the PDP in the upcoming general elections.
The party bigwigs who graced the occasion included Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the party, His Excellency Arch. Namani Sambo, the former Vice President, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the Delta State governor and running mate to Atiku in the forthcoming presidential election, Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Wali, the BOT Member, Darius Ishaku, the Governor of Taraba State, Senator Dino Melaye and other members of the party’s National Working Committee, amongst others.
