A non governmental organization, Mercy Helpline Initiative MHI has called for the full implementation of ban against Street Begging in Kano.
MHI in a press release issued by it team lead, Samuel Solomon commend the Kano State government under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for placing a ban on street begging in the state around February 2020.
The statement reads in part
“It is important for us as an organization to commend this bold step which we remain grateful to the government for.
However, from the survey MHI carried out on the ban between March and August 2022 to asses the state of compliance to this government’s decision, we discovered that there is low or non-compliance to this important ban by the people of Kano State.
After our report we gathered, we went around to revalidate our data and saw the need to call on the state government to fully kick start the full implementation of this ban as soon as possible because street begging from findings remains a strong impediment against the successful and actualization of the free and compulsory education program of Kano state government under this present administration.”
The NGO also commend the state government for recently repatriating some street beggars to their parents and state
