Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The decision was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Coronation Hall Government House Kano, described as the first major gathering since the defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the party.
The motion for Tinubu’s endorsement was moved by the Managing Director of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, and seconded by former Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi. In a show of support, stakeholders also raised N50 million to offset 50 percent of the N100 million cost of the President’s expression of interest and nomination forms, earlier obtained by James Abiodun Faleke.
The meeting further endorsed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as the APC’s sole governorship candidate for the 2027 elections. The motion was moved by former state APC chairman Abdullahi Abbas and seconded by Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, with the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, presiding as the resolutions were unanimously adopted.
During the meeting, Governor Yusuf conveyed a message from President Tinubu, urging unity among party members and advising that candidates should emerge through consensus wherever possible, with primaries conducted only when necessary.
Other prominent stakeholders present included former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former Deputy Governor Hafiz Abubakar, and former Minister of State for Housing Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, while Barau Jibrin and Ibrahim Shekarau were represented.
Speaking after the meeting, Rabiu Suleiman Bichi expressed confidence that President Tinubu would secure a landslide victory in Kano in 2027, citing what he described as an unprecedented consolidation of APC political structures.
