A faction of the People’s Redemption Party, under the banner of PRP–Vanguard (Akida), has raised concerns over an alleged leadership crisis within the party, rejecting the emergence of a parallel national leadership.

Addressing a press conference in Kano on April 27, the group accused a Kaduna-based faction, described as the “Falalu faction,” of conducting what it termed an illegitimate convention in Abuja and announcing a new national chairman.

The group specifically criticised Hakeem Baba Ahmed, alleging that he was not a recognised member of the party but was laying claim to its leadership, a move it described as unconstitutional and contrary to the party’s ideology.

PRP–Vanguard maintained that the party remains a socialist platform rooted in the interests of the masses, warning against what it called attempts to dilute its ideological foundation by accommodating politicians from other parties.

The faction also expressed opposition to calls for reconciliation, questioning the basis for unity amid what it described as illegality and disregard for established party structures across the country.

It further accused certain political interests of attempting to take control of the party for personal and elite-driven purposes, insisting that the PRP is not for sale and remains committed to grassroots mobilisation and social justice.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing legal action, grassroots engagement, and public advocacy to defend what it described as the original vision of the party.

PRP–Vanguard also used the occasion to call for a broader political shift in Nigeria, advocating for policies it said would prioritise the welfare of ordinary citizens and address economic challenges facing the country.
