Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered an investigation into the alleged deduction of N1.5 billion from workers’ salaries in Kano.

The governor gave the directive while addressing workers during the International Workers’ Day held at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

He said the probe would focus on allegations involving a former Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa.
“Following the alleged deduction of N1.5 billion from the workers’ salaries by the former Head of Service, I hereby order an investigation into the allegation,” the governor stated.

Yusuf assured workers that anyone found culpable would face appropriate sanctions, adding that any recovered funds would be returned to the affected workers.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and called for their continued support and dedication.

The governor also pledged to clear outstanding gratuities and death benefits owed to retirees, revealing that the state had so far paid N32 billion out of the N48 billion inherited from the previous administration, with a promise to settle the remaining N16 billion before the end of his tenure in 2027.

Earlier, the Kano State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Kabir Inuwa, commended the government for the payment of salaries and retirees’ benefits.

He, however, urged the governor to address salary disparities between state and local government workers and called for a thorough investigation into the alleged deductions.
