Former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has formally resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party, citing recent political developments and the need to pursue a new direction aligned with his vision for governance and development.

In a resignation letter dated March 29, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of NNPP Gwarzo Ward in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, Gwarzo announced that his decision takes immediate effect.

The former deputy governor stated that his resignation followed “deep reflection and wide consultations” with political associates, supporters, and well-wishers across the state. He noted that the evolving political landscape necessitated a reassessment of his membership in the party.

According to him, the move was driven by “patriotic consideration” and the desire to pursue a political path that aligns with his ideals of good governance, democratic values, and sustainable development for Kano State and Nigeria at large.

Gwarzo expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the NNPP for the support and cooperation he enjoyed during his time in the party. He described his experience within the party as an opportunity he remains grateful for.
“I wish to sincerely appreciate the leadership and members of the party for the cooperation, respect, and support I received during my stay,” he stated.

While he did not disclose his next political destination, the resignation is expected to fuel speculations about possible realignments ahead of future political engagements in Kano State.

Political observers say Gwarzo’s exit could have implications for the NNPP’s structure in parts of Kano, particularly in Gwarzo Local Government Area, where he remains an influential figure.

As of the time of filing this report, officials of the NNPP in Kano State had yet to issue an official response to the development.
