The Emeritus National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Alabi Kolade David, has extended warm felicitations to Muslims across the country on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, describing the celebration as a symbol of resilience, renewed faith, and collective strength.

In a statement issued to mark the end of Ramadan, Alabi, who also serves as an Executive Committee Member of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa, said Eid-el-Fitr represents more than the conclusion of fasting, but a period for deep reflection, unity, and compassion.

He noted that the festival embodies values of love, hope, and togetherness, urging Nigerians to embrace one another and work towards building a nation grounded in justice and unity.

“As we break fast and renew our spirits, let us harness the values of compassion, empathy, and selflessness taught by Prophet Muhammad. These values remain the bedrock of our shared humanity and are critical to overcoming the challenges facing our country,” he said.

The former ALGON president paid special tribute to rural communities across Nigeria, describing them as “the heartbeat of the nation.” He commended their resilience, courage, and enduring optimism despite prevailing socio-economic challenges, stressing that sustainable national development must begin at the grassroots.

Alabi reaffirmed ALGON’s commitment to bridging development gaps at the local government level, with a focus on promoting peace, dignity, and prosperity in all communities.

He also underscored the importance of trust in leadership as a cornerstone for national progress, calling on Nigerians to continue supporting the policies and reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to him, the administration’s reform efforts are gradually gaining both domestic support and international recognition, adding that sustained cooperation between citizens and government would help drive meaningful change.

Alabi concluded by expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future, noting that unity, faith, and compassion remain key to overcoming national challenges and positioning the country as a beacon of hope on the African continent.
