Panic gripped residents of Sabon Gyero community in Millennium City, within the Kaduna metropolitan area of Kaduna, after armed bandits launched a deadly early morning attack that left one person dead and seven others abducted.

The attackers, said to have stormed the community in large numbers in the early hours of Monday, reportedly invaded a residential building where they abducted three women and four children.

Residents said the assailants also attacked a nearby phone charging centre during the raid, where they shot and killed a young man identified as Abdullahi Lawal, popularly known in the area as “Kurma.”

According to eyewitness accounts, the bandits carted away several mobile phones and laptops from the charging centre before fleeing the scene.

Lawal, who was described by residents as deaf and non-verbal, reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to the head during the attack. He was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment but died before reaching the medical facility.

His remains were later buried in Sabon Gyero community in accordance with Islamic rites, as relatives, friends, and residents mourned his tragic death.
Confirming the incident, the Commandant of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the area, Uwaisu Yunusa, said members of the security team responded after hearing gunshots in the community.

Yunusa explained that the task force attempted to pursue the fleeing attackers but could not catch up with them.
Meanwhile, a source within the community disclosed that one of the abducted victims was later released by the kidnappers due to health complications.

The attack has heightened concerns among residents of the Kaduna metropolis over the growing threat of banditry and kidnapping, with many calling on security agencies to intensify patrols and surveillance to prevent further incidents.
