Kano Executive Council Approves N310bn Projects for Infrastructure, Education, Health

The Kano State Executive Council has approved projects worth more than three hundred and ten billion naira aimed at improving infrastructure, education, healthcare and socio-economic development across the state.

The approvals were made during the thirty-eighth meeting of the council presided over by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Government House in Kano.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Ibrahim Waiya said the council deliberated on several key issues affecting governance and development in the state and approved major projects across different sectors to improve the living conditions of residents.

In the education sector, the council approved more than two hundred and thirty-eight million naira for the purchase of UTME forms to be distributed to eligible candidates across the state. It also approved the rehabilitation of Government Girls Secondary School Hotoro South as well as renovation works at Government Secondary School Badau and Government Girls Secondary School Badau in Bagwai Local Government Area.

The council further approved funds for the feeding of boarding school students and the settlement of outstanding payments for eggs and chickens supplied to schools.

Additional approvals include the purchase of textbooks for students across the forty-four local government areas and the construction of a nomadic school in Tasawa village of Dambatta Local Government Area.

Under the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the council approved several projects including the renovation of the Kano State Fire Service Headquarters and additional works at Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital. Other projects include the maintenance of Rimin Auzinawa Road in Ungogo Local Government Area and the construction of the Ladanai Road Network.

The council also approved the reconstruction of major roads including the Race Course Extension to Audu Bako Way and other adjoining roads in Nassarawa Local Government Area. In addition, funds were approved for the rehabilitation of the road linking Gidan Malam Aminu Kano through Tal’udu and Gadonkaya to Sharada Road.

In rural development, the council approved the construction of feeder roads in Bichi, Dambatta, Garko and Takai local government areas as well as road projects in Gezawa Local Government Area to improve rural connectivity and boost economic activities in those communities.

The council also approved funds for the health sector, including the procurement of four dialysis machines for the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre and the purchase of dental equipment to improve healthcare services in the state.

Other approvals include compensation payments to households affected by the 330 KVA transmission line project as well as funding for environmental projects such as drainage construction and the production of ten million seedlings for the state’s annual tree planting campaign.

Meanwhile, the council approved more than one hundred and thirteen billion naira for the construction of a four hundred and eighty-unit mass housing scheme at Rijiyar Gwan-Gwan under the Gida-Gida Mega City project.

The council also approved funds for the Ramadan feeding programme and youth empowerment initiatives aimed at creating employment opportunities across the state.
