The Kano State Government has firmly dismissed reports alleging that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf snubbed the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, during the Hawan Nasarawa ceremony at the Government House, describing the claim as false and misleading.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the report circulating on some online platforms was unfounded and deliberately concocted to misinform the public and create unnecessary tension in the state.
The government explained that there was no deliberate act of disrespect, noting that it is a long-standing tradition for state governors to pay homage to the President during the Sallah period.
It added that this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebrations coincided with an important strategic meeting of Nigerian governors, resulting in a scheduling conflict that required Governor Yusuf’s presence outside Kano.
According to the statement, the governor had duly communicated his situation to Emir Sanusi II and, in line with established protocol, delegated the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly alongside other top government officials to receive the monarch on his behalf at the Government House.
The government further highlighted that Governor Yusuf actively participated in key Sallah activities, including attending the Eid prayer led by the Emir and taking part in the traditional Hawan Daushe at Gaya Emirate. It also noted that arrangements had been made for the governor to personally receive the Emirs of Rano, Karaye, and Gaya.
However, due to the unavoidable clash in official engagements, senior government functionaries were tasked with representing him at certain events. At the time of the Hawan Nasarawa, the governor was reportedly in Lagos attending an official meeting alongside other governors.
Reaffirming the relationship between the state government and the Kano Emirate Council, the statement stressed that there is no misunderstanding or friction between the two institutions. It described their relationship as cordial, respectful, and anchored on a shared commitment to peace, unity, and development in Kano State.
The government therefore urged the public to disregard the false reports and rely only on credible and official sources of information to avoid being misled.
