The Kano State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in the fight against vehicle theft with the recovery of four stolen vehicles and the arrest of four suspects in connection with the crimes.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who said the feat followed sustained intelligence-led and technology-driven operations in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
He noted that the operations were carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim  Bakori.
According to the statement, operatives of the Anti-Car Theft Unit on March 7 intercepted a dark blue Hyundai Elantra at Naibawa Flyover Bridge in Kano. Two suspects, Ibrahim Muhd, 29, of Minna in Niger State and Ahmed Sani, 32, of Abuja, were arrested while driving the vehicle which had earlier been reported stolen in Abuja.
The command also revealed that on March 9, operatives arrested Abdulkarim Mamman, 30, of Malali Quarters in Kaduna State, in possession of an ash-coloured Honda Civic along the Kwanar Dawaki axis of the Kano-Zaria Expressway. The suspect reportedly confessed to stealing the vehicle from Karkasara Quarters in Kano.
In a related development, Yusuf Ali, 28, of Kaduna State, was arrested in connection with a silver Toyota Corolla stolen from Dutse in Jigawa State, while another stolen vehicle, a white Nissan Sunny, was also recovered from the suspects after it was taken from a parking lot within the Kano metropolis.
