President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the recent terrorist attacks in Maiduguri, describing the incident as “profoundly upsetting” and a tragic moment for the nation.
In a statement issued following the attacks, the President extended his heartfelt condolences to families of those who lost their lives and sympathized with the injured, while reaffirming the Federal Government’s solidarity with the people of Borno State during what he termed a difficult period.
President Tinubu condemned the attacks, characterizing them as “desperate and frantic attempts” by criminal and terrorist elements seeking to instill fear and destabilize communities. He, however, assured Nigerians that such acts would not deter ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the country.
“The government will continue to intensify its efforts against all criminal elements threatening the peace and unity of our nation,” the President stated.
He commended the bravery and resilience of Nigerian troops, who successfully repelled coordinated assaults on military formations in the state. According to him, the courage displayed by the armed forces and supporting civilian task forces reflects a strong commitment to safeguarding the nation.
Describing the Monday attacks as the handiwork of “evil-minded groups,” the President expressed confidence that the combined efforts of the military and local security volunteers would ultimately suppress and eliminate the insurgents.
President Tinubu also revealed that he had recently approved the deployment of additional military equipment and operational support to strengthen security operations in the region. He noted that the move was part of broader measures aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of security agencies.
In a decisive step to address the situation, the President has directed top security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri and take charge of ongoing operations. He further instructed emergency response agencies to ensure prompt and adequate medical care for the injured victims.
The renewed commitment by the Federal Government comes amid heightened concerns over security in the North-East, as authorities intensify efforts to combat insurgency and restore stability in affected communities.
