Families of deceased police officers in Kano have received a total of ₦9,260,204.88 in welfare support as part of activities marking the National Police Day 2026.

The cheques were presented on Thursday by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone One Headquarters, Garba Ahmed, during the fourth day of the commemorative events held in Kano.

The funds, drawn from the Group Life Assurance Scheme and the IGP Family Welfare programme, were distributed to beneficiaries in recognition of the sacrifices made by fallen officers and to provide financial relief to their families.

Speaking at the presentation, AIG Ahmed said the initiative reflects the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to prioritise the welfare of its personnel and their dependants.

He emphasised that the current police leadership remains focused on ensuring that families of officers who died in active service are not abandoned, noting that such interventions are part of broader reforms aimed at boosting morale within the Force.

The AIG also extended his condolences to the bereaved families, praying for the repose of the souls of the departed officers.

Beneficiaries of the gesture expressed gratitude to the Police authorities for the timely support, assuring that the funds would be used judiciously to improve their living conditions.

The cheque presentation formed a key highlight of the ongoing National Police Day celebrations, which continue to spotlight the contributions and sacrifices of police personnel across the country.
