The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed that suspected bandits attacked the Yashikira Divisional Police Headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting 10 persons during the assault.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the armed attackers launched a coordinated operation targeting both the police station and the Emir’s palace in the early hours of the incident.
The statement said parts of the police station were set on fire during the attack, but police operatives on duty successfully repelled the assault on the facility.
It further confirmed that 10 residents were abducted and taken to an unknown destination, prompting an immediate security response in the area.
The Commissioner of Police ordered a joint intelligence-led operation involving the police, military, vigilantes, forest guards, and other security agencies to track the suspects, rescue the victims, and restore normalcy in the affected communities.
