The management of Northwest University Kano (NWUK) has constituted an investigative committee to probe allegations of sexual misconduct involving one of its staff members, Dr. Nasa’i Muhammad Gwadabe.
The university disclosed this in a statement issued by the Head of its Public Relations Unit, Abubakar Ibrahim, following the circulation of a video on social media alleging that the staff member attempted to sexually harass a female student of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN).
According to the statement, the alleged incident was said to have occurred at the Old Campus of Bayero University, Kano (BUK). The management, however, reiterated that it does not condone any form of sexual harassment, abuse or misconduct by members of its staff or students, irrespective of where such acts are alleged to have taken place.
The statement said the investigative committee had been mandated to thoroughly examine the allegations, establish the facts surrounding the incident and submit its findings to the university management for necessary action.
It added that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken in line with the university’s rules and regulations if the allegations were substantiated at the conclusion of the investigation.
The management reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, accountability and ethical conduct, assuring members of the university community and the public that the investigation would be conducted fairly and transparently.
The university also appealed to the public to remain calm, refrain from speculation and allow the investigative process to run its full course.
