The National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) has donated 3,000 tree seedlings to the Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi, Kano State.

The Director-General of the agency, Malam Sale Abubakar, disclosed this during a visit to the new site of the institution in Bichi Local Government Area of the state.

Abubakar said the visit was aimed at assessing the progress of tree planting activities at the institution and ensuring the survival and proper management of the seedlings.

He said the initiative of planting trees across higher institutions would bring positive changes to the environment and contribute to improving the wellbeing of staff and students.

The Director-General assured the institution of the agency’s continued support, saying NAGGW would sustain collaboration with the college in promoting environmental protection and combating desertification.

The Provost of the institution, Dr Bashir Sabo Abubakar, commended NAGGW for the visit and donation, saying staff and students had already embraced the culture of tree planting.

He also commended the Federal Government for relocating the headquarters of NAGGW to Kano, describing the development as a significant step towards addressing environmental challenges in the region.

The provost called for partnership and intervention by relevant agencies on the 50-hectare land allocated to the institution, particularly to promote initiatives that could help curb farmers-herders clashes and enhance peaceful coexistence.
