The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of six students of the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda by suspected bandits in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the students were kidnapped from their off-campus residence located in the Federal Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda town.

Abubakar explained that the attackers, suspected to be armed bandits, infiltrated the community in disguise and carried out the operation without firing a gunshot.

According to him, security agencies received a distress call shortly after the incident, prompting a joint response by the police and other security agencies.

The police spokesman said the incident occurred at about 11:40 p.m. on Monday when the students were resting in their apartment.

He disclosed that seven students were initially abducted during the raid, but one escaped shortly afterward, leaving three male and three female students in captivity.

Abubakar said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, had deployed special operatives to work with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, residents of Kaura Namoda have expressed concern over the incident, alleging that the abduction occurred close to a military facility.

Some community members said armed groups had continued to carry out attacks in the town, which is regarded as the second-largest urban centre in the state.

They attributed the recent wave of attacks to a notorious bandit leader identified as Kachalla Bello Dansadiya, whom they accused of orchestrating repeated assaults on communities in the area.

Residents also recalled previous kidnapping incidents in the Federal Low-Cost neighbourhood, including the abduction of two senior polytechnic lecturers who are reportedly still in captivity despite ransom payments.

They further alleged that an elderly district head, as well as relatives of a senior paramilitary officer, had also been kidnapped in separate incidents in recent months.

Some community sources claimed that the latest victims were being held in a bandit enclave within the Dajin Yamma forest, although security authorities have yet to confirm the claim.

The residents appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted students and tackle the persistent insecurity in the area.

They also called on the Federal Government and relevant security authorities to deploy additional personnel and resources to safeguard lives and property in the state.
