Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, on Tuesday attended an emergency plenary session of the Senate where lawmakers considered key national issues, including a proposed bill on state policing.
During the session, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, read a communication from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu transmitting the Nigeria State Police Bill to the upper legislative chamber for consideration.
The proposed legislation seeks to establish a constitutional framework for the creation of state police services through the decentralisation of policing across the country.
According to the president’s communication, the bill is designed to strengthen the nation’s security architecture by introducing a dual policing structure aimed at addressing emerging security challenges and enhancing public safety.
Sen. Musa, a recipient of the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) honour, also participated in deliberations on other legislative matters before the Senate adjourned.
Speaking after the plenary, Musa reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation of his constituents and to supporting initiatives that promote national development through constructive legislative engagement.
The consideration of the State Police Bill is expected to generate extensive debate among lawmakers and stakeholders as efforts continue to address security concerns across the country.
