The Kano State Government has urged couples participating in the ongoing mass wedding programme to cultivate patience, love and peaceful coexistence for successful marriages.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf gave the advice while addressing the newlyweds during the continuation of the mass wedding ceremony held at the Kano Government House.
Yusuf congratulated the couples and said the mass wedding programme was part of the commitments made to the people during the political campaign in 2003.
He urged the newlyweds to be patient with one another and ensure that their marriages were built on love, understanding and peaceful coexistence.
The governor prayed to Allah to bless the marriages with righteous and productive offspring who would contribute positively to the development of Kano State and Nigeria at large.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, said the state government had provided various forms of support to the couples to enable them to begin their marital lives comfortably.
Daurawa said each of the 1,500 brides was given a bed, mattress and two wardrobes free of charge, in addition to N200,000 provided as dowry and support for starting a means of livelihood.
He added that each groom was also presented with a 50Kg bag of rice and a jerrycan of cooking oil as part of the government’s support for the couples as they commenced their marital lives.
The Hisbah commander said the initiative was designed to support young people, strengthen families and promote social stability in the state.
In their separates remarks Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, And Sheikh Bala Lau described the mass wedding as timely.
Governors and representatives from neighbouring states, including Jigawa,Katsina, kebbi ans zamfara also attended the ceremony to show solidarity with the Kano State Government and the newly married couples.
The mass wedding programme is aimed at supporting widows, divorcees and other eligible individuals to establish legitimate families and promote social and economic stability in Kano State.
