The Kano State Police Command has recovered 160 suspected stolen solar inverters valued at N59.2 million and arrested three suspects in connection with the theft of six fuel dispensing machines worth N10.2 million in separate operations across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kano on Saturday, describing the achievements as a reflection of the command’s commitment to intelligence-led and community-centred policing.
Kiyawa said detectives attached to the Sharada Police Division acted on credible intelligence on July 29 and arrested a 43-year-old suspect, Abdullahi Isah, for allegedly advertising large quantities of solar inverters at suspiciously low prices.
He said a follow-up search of an uncompleted building at Haye Quarters along the Western Bypass in Kano led to the recovery of 160 units of 6.5KW/48V solar inverters believed to have been stolen, with investigations ongoing to determine their source and identify other accomplices.
He appealed to members of the public who own or may have lost solar inverters of similar description to report to the Sharada Police Division for identification and possible recovery, adding that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
In a separate operation, the police spokesman said operatives of the Special Intervention Squad arrested three suspects over the robbery of six fuel dispensing machines stolen from Jajire Filling Station in Aku Village, Gaya Local Government Area.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly purchased the stolen machines from one Usman Ibrahim of Kaduna State, who is currently at large, for N5.2 million, while efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and recover the exhibits.
