Kano NLC Backs FG’s IPPIS Audit to Weed Out Ghost Workers

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State Council, has expressed support for the Federal Government’s planned audit of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) to identify and eliminate ghost workers.

The Chairman of the council, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, stated this while speaking with newsmen in Kano.

Inuwa said ghost workers remained a major challenge to effective public sector administration, noting that their presence often inflated government wage bills.

He explained that the huge amount spent on salaries of non-existent workers could deprive government of funds needed to execute critical development projects and provide essential services to citizens.

The NLC chairman said the union supported any credible and transparent mechanism that would enable government to properly scrutinise the payroll system and address the problem of ghost workers.

He, however, said Kano was not among the states currently facing challenges in the regular payment of workers’ salaries, adding that workers in the state had continued to receive their salaries on time.

Inuwa therefore urged workers to remain committed to their duties, uphold honesty and accountability and continue to contribute their best towards achieving the goals and objectives of government.
