The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Bello Abubakar of Ganwo Village, Yauri Local Government Area, for alleged attempted culpable homicide and robbery.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Birnin Kebbi.

Usman said the incident occurred on Aug. 23, 2026, when Bello Umar, 22, a commercial motorcycle rider from Wasagu Village in Danko/Wasagu LGA, was found with a serious head injury at Tungar Dariya Bush, near Makera Village in Shanga LGA.

He said the victim was evacuated to Koko General Hospital, where he received treatment and was later discharged.

According to the PPRO, investigation revealed that the suspect hired the victim’s motorcycle from Koko Town to Tungar Dariya Bush, where he allegedly attacked him with a hoe and covered his body with leaves, believing he was dead, before fleeing with the motorcycle to Yauri Town.

Usman said diligent investigation led to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and subsequent arrest of the suspect, adding that Abubakar was cooperating with investigators.

He said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, described the incident as despicable and a direct assault on human life and livelihood.

Hadejia warned that the command would hunt down and prosecute anyone who preyed on commercial motorcycle riders or other law-abiding citizens, while commending the operatives for their professionalism and swift action.
