Saudi Arabia projects Feb. 8, 2027 as start of Ramadan

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Saudi Arabia is expected to begin the 2027 Ramadan fast on Monday, Feb. 8, 2027, according to the current Umm Al-Qura calendar and astronomical calculations.

The Saudi Umm Al-Qura calendar has designated Feb. 8, 2027, as the first day of Ramadan 1448 AH, while calculations by the International Astronomy Center also indicate that the new moon is expected to occur shortly before the projected start date.

However, the date is not yet definitive, as the commencement of Ramadan in Saudi Arabia will ultimately depend on the official sighting of the crescent moon by the relevant authorities.

Similarly, the current Umm Al-Qura calendar projects Eid al-Fitr, marking the beginning of Shawwal 1448 AH, for Tuesday, March 9, 2027.

Under the calendar projection, Ramadan 1448 AH would therefore run from Feb. 8 to March 8, 2027.

The final dates for the commencement and end of Ramadan will be determined following the official crescent-moon sighting process in Saudi Arabia.
