WHC Solar has trained nearly 300 solar installers in Kano to improve technical competence, reduce installation errors and enhance service delivery in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector.
The Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr Clint Chan, disclosed this on Saturday during a training programme organised to strengthen installers’ practical knowledge and professional skills.
Chan said the initiative followed the company’s observation that some installers lacked the technical expertise and experience required for proper solar system installations.
He explained that such gaps sometimes resulted in installation errors, affecting the performance of solar systems and customer satisfaction.
“Our mission is to ensure that everyone in the world has access to electricity because we recognise that Nigeria still faces significant electricity challenges,” he said.
Chan said the company initially expected about 252 participants but recorded an increase in attendance to nearly 300.
He explained that the training featured theoretical sessions and practical demonstrations on solar system installation, inverter configuration and lithium battery integration.
According to him, participants would receive certificates at the end of the programme to recognise their participation and the knowledge acquired.
Chan said the initiative was also designed to strengthen collaboration among the company, its agents and installers, while promoting professional standards in the solar energy sector.
In his prepared remarks titled “Install Every System Well and Grow Together,” he urged installers to select appropriate products, size solar systems according to customers’ energy requirements and follow proper installation procedures.
He also stressed the importance of conducting necessary checks before handing over completed installations to customers.
Chan said WHC Solar had operated since 2009, adding that its industry experience included a solar streetlight project in Chicago.
He disclosed that the company had a service centre in Kano to provide technical support to installers facing challenges they could not resolve independently.
He encouraged participants to share experiences and discuss common installation problems to improve their technical knowledge and professional competence.
Chan said improved installation practices would help reduce costly return visits, protect installers’ professional reputations and generate recommendations from satisfied customers.
Solar energy has become an alternative source of electricity for households and businesses in Nigeria amid persistent power supply challenges.
However, proper system sizing, equipment configuration and installation procedures remain essential to ensuring the safety, efficiency and reliability of solar power systems.
