The management of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has commenced a preliminary investigation into allegations of online impersonation and financial misconduct reportedly involving one of its students.
In a statement issued by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, the institution said it had taken note of reports circulating in public commentary and on social media linking a person believed to be a BUK student to acts of online impersonation and financial impropriety. The management stressed that it views any conduct capable of tarnishing the institution’s reputation with utmost seriousness.
The statement reiterated that the university maintains strict standards of discipline, conduct, and character for all students throughout their academic stay. It also emphasised that the personal actions of any individual student should not be interpreted as representing the values or reputation of the university as a whole.
According to the statement, the university has begun a preliminary inquiry to establish the facts surrounding the allegations. Appropriate authorities within the institution are currently reviewing the matter in line with BUK’s established rules and disciplinary procedures governing student conduct.
The management also acknowledged the contributions of individuals who support students financially, including Farooq Kperogi, commending their public-spirited efforts in assisting students with registration fees and other educational expenses. The university noted that such acts of generosity play a significant role in improving access to education for deserving students.
BUK further assured members of the public that if the allegations are substantiated after due investigation, appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken in accordance with the university’s regulations and applicable laws.
The institution, however, urged the public to allow the investigative process to run its course and to refrain from speculation or the circulation of unverified information while the inquiry is ongoing.
