Members of Darika sects in Katsina State, under Darika Awareness Forum has revealed plans to fully engage in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, especially the selection of candidates.
Malam Aminu Zango, the leader of the Forum in the state disclosed this on Sunday at the inauguration of four committees to take the affairs of the forum.
According to him, members of the forum who are 95 per cent youths came from various Darika groups (Zawiyya) and formed the awareness forum.
He added that the forum was initiated to sensitise and educate their members with non-formal schools on the need to believe in politics because it is also part of religion.
“Because, when we choose to distance ourselves from politics, it is like we are cheating ourselves and our members, because we have to know the quality of leaders to lead us.
“For you to choose someone that you can trust to lead you, you must be part of the politics before you achieve such ambition. Where we have problems, our parents, traditional Islamic teachers, ‘Malaman zaure’ are not aware of this.
“All they know is that a leader should be brought to them to follow because during their time there was trust and understanding of each other, and the leaders would lead accordingly.
“Not that there is no trust nowadays, but it has changed its ways to an extent you must seriously keep watching and guiding the leaders before they can be trusted.
“Therefore, this forum was initiated to create awareness and ensure our unity so that we can always talk in one voice towards achieving peaceful coexistence.” He said.
Zango explained further that the committees inaugurated included that of trustees, administration, zonal leaders and that of local governments.
Earlier in his welcome address, Sheikh Muhammad Hadi, the Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) of the forum said the meeting came at the right time when 2023 elections is approaching.
According to him, for any society to move forward, youths must be carried along, therefore they are the backbone of any society.
He expressed confidence and hope that the aim of the forum will be achieved and beneficial to all Darika members and also to the general public.
Sheikh Hadi also called on their followers to make sure that they obtain their permanent voter card before the election.
