Kano Govt Supports Families of Slain Hunters with Cash, Food Aid

The Kano State Government has provided cash and food assistance to the families of 16 hunters who were reportedly lynched by a mob in Uromi, as part of efforts to cushion the impact of the tragedy.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved the intervention, which saw families of the deceased receive N300,000 each, while 13 survivors were given N200,000 each alongside food items.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Abdullahi Waiya, led a government delegation to Bunkure Local Government Area on Friday to present the assistance to the affected families.

Speaking during the visit, Waiya said the gesture was in line with the governor’s directive to assess the welfare of the victims’ families and fulfil promises earlier made by the state government.

“We are here on the directive of the governor to look into the well-being of the families and to fulfil the promise made to them,” he said.

The commissioner explained that although Governor Yusuf had earlier pledged support during a previous visit, the disbursement was delayed due to administrative processes, which have now been concluded.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting victims of violence and ensuring that affected families receive necessary relief, particularly in times of hardship.
The tragic killing of the hunters in Uromi had drawn widespread concern, with calls for justice and improved security measures to prevent similar incidents across the country.
